A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after his HGV tipped on its side.

Pictures show the moment the goods vehicle flipped, landing on its passenger side on a verge in Hartlepool.

The lorry, carrying wooden posts, blocked the A689 at the Owton Manor Lodge roundabout shortly after 9.30am and it was closed by police.

He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, and taken into police custody.

The road was closed westbound between Brenda Road and Seaton Lane while council workers cleared it of debris and recovery carried out.

(Image: CLEVELAND POLICE) A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “We received a report that a heavy goods vehicle had tipped onto its side on the A689 at Stockton Road/Owton Manor Lane.

“The driver, a 23-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment for a minor injury to his arm.

“A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He remains in police custody at this time.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said previously: “We received a call at 9.30am this morning (October 30) to reports of a road traffic incident on Seaton Lane in Hartlepool.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews and took one patient to the University Hospital of North Tees for further treatment."
