Drugs estimated to be worth over £68,000 and a large amount of cash have been seized by police which has led to five suspects being charged and appearing in court.

A Northumbria Police operation across Jesmond and Heaton carried out a warrant at an address along the Quayside in Newcastle - which they believed was being used by a crime group.

Police then uncovered a haul of illegal drugs including quantities of cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and cannabis which is believed to be valued in the region of between £68,320 and £78,570.

Five people were arrested in connection with the discovery and they appeared before court on Monday.

“Nobody wants to have this kind of illicit activity on their doorstep and that is why we take any information around drug dealing extremely seriously.

“We’d ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears and assist us in providing information on this type of criminality so that we can take the appropriate action.”
