Council bosses have agreed to provide £25,000 towards the setting up of a new regional “multibank” to help people in need.
Tees Valley Multibank is scheduled to launch next month and be managed and run via The Junction Foundation, a Redcar-based charity working across the region to support children, young people, and families.
The concept connects companies that have a surplus of goods and local charities and care professionals who know the people who need them.
It aims to “reduce the effects of poverty while contributing to a more circular economy and prevent surplus goods from ending up in landfill, reducing the impact on the environment”.
Items covered include warm clothes, bedding, hygiene products, school uniforms, crockery, and household furnishings.

A report from Hartlepool Borough Council chiefs states they have agreed to provide £25,000 over 2024/25 in support of the project.
An “efficiency review” to determine the benefits of the programme for Hartlepool will then take place before making a decision on committing to a further year.
