One person has been hospitalised after a crash near the A19 caused miles of tailbacks during rush hour this afternoon.

Emergency services were at the scene on the A179 near Sheraton just after 3:15pm on Monday (October 18) following a collision between two vehicles.

Traffic stretched from Sheraton all the way back to Hart as police recovered a vehicle.

A NEAS spokesperson said: "At 3.18pm this afternoon (Monday 28 October) one of our crews came across a road traffic incident on the junction of Worset Lane and the A179 in Hartlepool.

"We transported one patient to the University Hospital of North Tees for further treatment."
