Darlington’s Christmas season begins in only three weeks with a Christmas light switch-on led by Santa in Market Square.

The festivities will start on Sunday, November 17 at four pm with live music and guest appearances on the main stage.

Then at 5:30pm Santa, supported by the Round Table, will officially turn on the lights in a 'big switch-on'.

The event will then conclude with a short, celebratory fireworks display.

This follows on from the news last week where Darlington Council's lighting team were seen installing the string of Christmas lights all around Darlington.

They have also been putting finishing touches to the town's Christmas tree all in preparation for the big switch on.

These include a Christmas tree trail, with local schools and community groups decorating trees displayed in shop windows, and the return of the popular ice sculpture trail on Saturday, December 7, which will feature free competitions and photo opportunities.
