Police are appealing for information after a teenager was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being knocked over by a car in Newcastle.

At around 4.25pm on Friday, October 18, officers were alerted to a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Jesmond Dene Road, close to the Blue House roundabout.

It was reported that a red Mini Clubman car had been travelling in an eastbound direction when – for reasons yet to be established – it has struck a male pedestrian on the road.

Emergency services attended the scene where the pedestrian – a 17-year-old – had suffered serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital and remains there in a stable condition.

The driver of the Mini remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

The road was closed for several hours but it has since been re-opened.

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision – and have today (Friday) appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from motorists who were driving in the area at the time, and any witnesses who may have dashcam footage or CCTV which could assist their enquiries.
