Former North West Durham MP Richard Holden has been fined after being caught speeding in a residential area.
The case against the 39-year-old, who is now Conservative MP for Basildon and Billericay, was heard at Peterlee Magistrates' Court under the Single Justice Procedure on Tuesday.
The court was told Holden was recorded on manned equipment exceeding the 30mph speed limit on the A689 Durham Road, Wolsingham, while driving a Toyota, on March 2.
He pleaded guilty to exceeding 30mph on a restricted road and was fined £333 and ordered to pay costs of £90 and a surcharge of £133.
Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.
Holden, whose address was given in court documents as Front Street, Wolsingham, was given until November 19 to pay the balance of £556.
He was MP for North West Durham from 2019 to July 2024.
He was the Chairman of the Conservative Party from November 2023 until his resignation on 8 July 2024 following the 2024 general election.
Holden served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Roads and Local Transport from October 2022 to November 2023 and as Minister without Portfolio from November 2023 to July 2024.
