Sausage rolls and £425 champagne may seem like chalk and cheese, but Greggs’ new Fenwick venue is drawing thousands of diners with the unusual pairing.
The Newcastle-based firms’ latest collaboration sees Greggs classics served with “a delicious range of contemporary and ‘in vogue’ condiments” alongside glasses of bubbly.
Diners can pair the bakes usually eaten from a paper bag with a selection of the finest, handpicked Champagnes served by the glass or bottle including one – the prestigious Louis Roederer Cristal – costing £75 a glass, or £425 per the bottle.
The venue opened on Thursday (October 24) morning and has had 4,100 guests book in since it was announced last week.
It will be open until New Years Eve and seats 16 people at a time.
Guests can ring vintage, crystal bells for a top-up of their tipple.
Meanwhile, the cocktail menu is based on the high street bakers’ sweet treats including a ‘Yum Yum Twist’, ‘Cream Éclair’, and ‘Pink Jammie Fizz’.
A Fenwick spokesperson said: “The Champagne bar looks to be the hottest ticket in the Toon this Christmas.”
Bosses say the bar, in the Northumberland Street department store, is based on the Belle Epoque era, a period in French history characterised by beauty and joy, with Art Nouveau details.

The collaboration builds on the success of the Bistro Greggs pop-up last Christmas which saw pasties served under silver clockers with fine-dining sides like truffled dauphinoise potatoes and pickled carrots.
It will be open from 11.30am until store closing daily and diners must book in advance.
