A BBC Look North presenter has left radio listeners in hysterics after attempting a surprising 'impression' live on air.

Carol Malia, known for delivering the news on BBC One, had her colleagues in stitches during a segment on BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Tees.

While playing 'celebrity birthdays' with presenter Scott Makin and weather presenter Paul Mooney, the team discussed rapper Shaggy’s real name, Orville Richard Burrell.

Malia suddenly recalled the famous green puppet Orville the Duck, bursting out with a line from the character: "Can he fly? He can sing but can't fly."

Orville the Duck, the little green duck puppet was often used by ventriloquist Keith Harris and named after one of the Wright Brothers, Orville Wright.

The duck was a staple on BBC television from 1982 to 1990 on The Keith Harris Show, which featured the puppet alongside Cuddles the Monkey.

The duo also released the hit single Orville's Song in December 1982, which peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart and sold over 400,000 copies.

Orville also appeared in the video for Tony Christie's 'Is This the Way to Amarillo', which was re-released in the same year.

Malia's unexpected impression delighted listeners, showcasing versatile talents beyond the newsroom and presenting the evening news.

BBC Look North airs weeknights at 6.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
