Police have released images of two people as officers investigate a serious assault in County Durham. 

The incident took place on Newgate Street, in Bishop Auckland, at around 1am on Saturday, October 12, when a person was reportedly attacked. 

Durham Constabulary has released the images of two people - one wearing a light-coloured jumper and blue trousers and the other in all black - as officers try to identify them. 

No details regarding the nature of the assault, or the condition of the victim, have been released by the force at this time. 

Anyone who recognises the individuals is asked to get in touch with police.

A spokesperson said: "Police need your help to identify these two people. Officers would like to speak to them in connection with a serious assault in Bishop Auckland.
