Drivers in and around County Durham will have 17 National Highways road closures to watch out for in the coming weeks.

And six of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that seven closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• A19, from 8pm September 13 to 6am October 26, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A19 northbound, B1320 Peterlee to A1086 Easington Interchange lane closure for electrical works.

• A1(M), from 8pm October 7 to 6am November 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, Lumley Thicks, Lane closures for survey works.

• A1(M), from 6am October 3 to 6am November 16, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 60 to junction 61, lane closure for vehicle safety fence works.

• A66, from 8pm October 20 to 6am November 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 westbound, Old Spittal to Cumbrian Border, Lane closure with speed restriction for Renewal of weather station.

• A19, from 8pm July 22 to 6am December 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Easington to B1320 Peterlee Interchange, temporary 50 mph speed limit.

• A19, from 8pm September 18 2023 to 5.30pm February 25 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Cold Hesledon Interchange, carriageway and lane closures for maintenance works.

• A1(M), from 8pm October 3 2024 to 6pm October 3 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M southbound, junction 64 Interchange, lane closure for barrier safety fence works.

And a further six closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• A66, from 8am October 24 to 4.30pm October 28, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Hulands Quarry to Cross Lanes, lane closures for maintenance works.

• A1(M), from 8pm October 24 to 6am October 25, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 62 to junction 63, lane closures for technology works.

• A1(M), from 8am to 4.30pm on October 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 58 to junction 59, mobile lane closure for maintenance works.

• A19, from 8pm October 31 to 6am November 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A19 northbound, A179 Sheraton to A181 Wellfield Interchange, Lane closures for survey works.

• A66, from 8pm November 1 to 6am November 2, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Side Street Farm, traffic signals for broadband installation.

• A66, from 7pm November 4 to 6am November 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Bowes to Rokeby Park, diversion route and signage for LA off network works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
