Two have been arrested after police seized £400 of suspected stolen goods from a Darlington shop.
Police were called to the town centre last Friday (October 18) following reports of two shoplifters.
Upon arrival, officers say suspects were hiding in a phone shop - and were then arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop.
The pair, a 40-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were taken into custody and £400 of suspected stolen goods were seized.
They have now been released on bail as an investigation begins.
A full police statement reads: "Officers in Darlington were alerted by town council CCTV to two suspected shoplifters in the town centre on Friday afternoon.
"Response officers attended and located the suspects attempting to hide in a mobile phone shop on the high street.
"A 40-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop and taken into custody.
