A mental health and suicide prevention support group with over 200 locations across the country is set to come to Darlington in the next few weeks.

Andy's Man Club, a men's only support group was established in 2016 after 23-year-old Andrew Roberts, tragically took his own life and now has venues in Murton, Horden and Hartlepool to name a few.

The premise sees men come together to talk about anything regarding their mental health or personal life they wish to share with the hopes of helping men open up over a cup of tea and biscuit.

Craig Simcox from Middlesbrough, aged 61, is just one of the facilitators of Andy's Man Club Stockton and told The Northern Echo the team are on the lookout for the best possible spot in Darlington.

"I asked if I could be the one to open it and I did - I opened it on August 8 last year. Sadly, that was the day my sister passed away. I really needed the group that day.

"It is really good to give something back, I've been really involved in the group and I see it as a job. It helps me massively."

Currently, the Stockton team are on the hunt for a space in Darlington to bring their group but there is a strict criteria.

Craig added: "We have had a few offers - but we still don't have a venue as we speak. We need somewhere that can regularly take around 40 people."

Should they get a venue, the team can get themselves set up "within weeks".
