One person has been taken to hospital following a crash on the A19 that led to miles of congestion and one lane of the A-road closed off.
Emergency services were called to the A19, near the junction of the A690 in Sunderland on the southbound carriageway at around 8.15am on Tuesday (October 22) following reports of a two-vehicle crash.
During the incident, one lane of the A19 was closed, which led to miles of congestion, which stretched between parts of Seaham, County Durham, and several junctions of the A190 signposted for Sunderland.
The road has since reopened after the incident - with the North East Ambulance Service providing a statement following the crash.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A19, near to the junction of the A690, Sunderland, shortly before 8.15 this morning.
"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: "Shortly after 8am, we were called to a two-vehicle collision on the A19 southbound close to the junction with the A690.
"Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported. A woman aged in her 40s has been taken to hospital as a precaution for treatment of a minor injury.
"The road was closed for a short period but has since reopened."
