A 39-year-old cyclist has been taken to hospital after they were involved in a crash with a car which fled from the scene.

Cleveland Police have launched an appeal after the cyclist was hit on the Billingham bypass road roundabout before 6am on October 14.

The crash has been described as being between the cyclist and another "small white vehicle".

An investigation has been launched following the crash as police appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

A full statement from Cleveland Police reads: "Police are appealing after a cyclist was injured in a collision whereby the vehicle failed to stop in Billingham.

"The incident happened around 5:45am on Monday 14th October on the Billingham bypass road roundabout, close to the Tesco garage.

"The 39-year-old male cyclist was in collision with a small, white vehicle and was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries to his hand and bruising.

"The driver did not stop at the scene.

"Any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 197125."
