There is currently no timeframe for reopening a major road in County Durham after a serious crash earlier in the day, police have said.
The A19 has been closed both ways after a crash between the junctions with the Little Thorpe exit and the A181 Castle Eden.
Police and ambulances are in attendance at the scene just past the Old Shotton turn-off.
It is not known if anyone has been injured in the collision.
Officers from Durham Constabulary have said that there is no estimated time for reopening, and asked motorists to allow for delays.
A spokesperson from the force said: "We are currently dealing with a collision on the A19 near to the turn off with the A181.
"The road is closed in both directions at this time north and south of the A181.
