Here are a few of the people who were sentenced at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ courts recently.
The ten offenders include those guilty of drink or drug driving, shoplifting and assaulting emergency workers.
Bradley Becque, of London Avenue, North End, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to to drink driving when he was stopped on Larchfield Street, Darlington after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in your breath, namely 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, exceeded the prescribed limit. The 22-year-old also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, racial harassment of a police officer, threatening behaviour, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a licence when he was arrested on January 5. He was sentenced to 16-weeks in custody suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to comply with a 120-day alcohol abstinence order.
Craig Smith, of Windsor Avenue, Richmond, North Yorkshire, pleaded guilty to driving with cocaine in his system when he was stopped whilst driving a Transit van on Wylam Avenue, Darlington, on January 26. The 43-year-oold was banned from driving for 15 months. He was also fined £180 and ordered to pay £472 towards court costs.
Mark Jose, of Brunel Way, Darlington, pleaded guilty to assault by beating on December 11 last year. The 50-year-old was made subject to an electronically monitored tag for six weeks as part of a year-long community order. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to his victim.
Jonathan Watson, of Victoria Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker on June 3 in Darlington. The 37-year-old was fined £240 and ordered to pay £181 in court costs.
Sinead Davies, of no fixed abode but formerly Darlington, pleaded guilty to shoplifting on August 6 when they stole a number of beauty products belonging to Boots. The 34-year-old was made subject of a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £188.49 in compensation.
Rebecca Kelly, of no fixed abode but formerly Darlington, pleaded guilty to shoplifting when she stole a quantity of cosmetic and fishing related items, to the value of £29.91, belonging to Boyes store on August 23 and when she stole a packet of mackerel, to the value of £4.25 , belonging to Asda on September 24. She was ordered to pay compensation to both businesses to the value of the stolen goods.

Nicholas Ferguson, of Pentland Close, Peterlee, County Durham, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, two of criminal damage and assault on an emergency worker on January 21 in Peterlee. The 34-year-old was made subject to an 18-month community order, a 120-day alcohol abstinence and monitoring order, 40 rehabilitation activity requirement days and told to pay £500 in compensation to the victims.
Jack Turner, of Lindon Close, Trimdon Grange, Trimdon Station, County Durham, pleaded guilty to failing to provide specimen for analysis on March 13 this year. The 31-year-old was given a 12-week suspended sentence for 12 months, issued with an alcohol abstinence and monitoring order for 70 days and ordered to pay £239 in court costs.
Jordan Stoker, of Queen Street, Shildon, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine, driving whilst under the influence of cocaine, driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified after he was stopped on June 12 in Spennymoor. The 29-year-old was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison suspended for 18 months, placed on an electronic tag for four months and disqualified for driving for two years.
Jonathan Banks, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to taking a motor vehicle without the owners consent in Bishop Auckland on August 3, theft of car keys belonging to Shildon Alive on August 2, and theft of a car in County Durham on August 2. The 32-year-old was jailed for a total of 32 weeks for all offences.
