Two men have pleaded guilty when they appeared at Teesside Crown Court for short hearings.

An illegal immigrant has pleaded guilty to growing cannabis while another man has admitted his role in rioting during the summer.

Hong Tran admitted being involved in the production of the Class B drug at an address in Darlington between December 10 last year and March 9 this year.

The 47-year-old, of no fixed abode but formerly of Darlington, will return to court next week for sentence.

Judge Jonathan Carroll said: “You have pleaded guilty to this offence; you will be sentenced on October 24 and in the meantime, you will remain remanded in custody.”

And Paul Sizer pleaded guilty to violent disorder following the rioting in Middlesbrough town centre in August.

The 40-year-old, of Bramcote Lane, Thornaby, had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge but changed that to guilty during a short hearing at Teesside Crown Court.

Judge Francis Laird KC remanded the rioter in custody until the day of his sentencing on October 31.

A pre-sentence report was requested for the defendant ahead of the hearing.
