Today we name five people who have appeared in court during the last few weeks for shoplifting.

They were all charged with theft from a shop and received a wide range of sentences after appearing in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court.

Pleas of guilty were entered in all the cases. 

Tammy Hedley, 33, of Seaham, County Durham, pleaded guilty to three separate theft offences, each involving shoplifting items from different stores in Peterlee.

On Tuesday, September 3, Hedley took gift sets valued at £100 from Fizzy Lous in Castle Dene Shopping Centre, while on Sunday, August 25, when she stole six wooden log packs worth £132 from Southside Service Station.

Three days later, on Wednesday, August 28, she returned to Southside Services and took two more wooden log packs, this time valued at £43.

The cumulative total of the stolen goods amounted to £275 and Hedley was ordered to pay compensation for each of the thefts.

Rebecca Kelly ,40,of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to stealing a packet of mackerel worth £4.25 from Asda in Darlington on September 24. 

She also admitted stealing  a quantity of cosmetic and fishing related items , to the value of £29.91 , belonging to W Boyes & Co.  She was ordered to pay compensation for all the items stolen. 

Graham Million , 51, of Thomas Street, Shildon, pleaded guilty to the theft of stole three 2 litre bottles of cider valued at £10.50 from the C0-op in Shildon on June 29.  

He was given a conditional discharge of six months.There were no orders for costs. 

Crake Fishwick,, 29,of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a several thefts. He admitted stealing two steaks worth £8.50 from Sainsburys in Peterlee on September 20as well as Galaxy bars worth £14.70 on the same day.

He further admitted theft of laundry products, to the value of £20 at Morissons, Peterlee on September 17 and theft of a large quantity of galaxy chocolate bars, of a value unknown, from Sainsburys, Peterlee on September 27. 

Theft from a shop, Contrary to section 1(1) and 7 of the Theft Act 1968.. On 22nd September 2024 at Peterlee, Co. Durham , stole Ten bars of chocolate , to the value of £10 , belonging to Sainsburys. Contrary to section 1(1) and 7 of the Theft Act 1968.

He admitted theft of laundry products worth £20 from Sainsburys, Peterlee, on August 27 and theft of stole four cans of Lynx deodorant , to the value of £10, at the same store on September 22, along with theft of meat items from the store on September 21. 

The court ordered he pay compensation of £98.20 to the various stores. 

Shaun Short, 38, of Rennie Street, Ferryhill, has been jailed for 18 weeks because of his flagrant disregard foe people and their property after admitted a string of offences.

The court was told on Sunday October 6 he stole meat and butter valued at £92.45 from the Coop in Ferryhill; laundry products, candles and baby formula, of a value unknown, from Sainsburys, Ferryhill on October 5; chocolate and washing powder , of a value unknown, belonging to The Co-operative on October 6; meat and detergents worth £111 from the Co-op on October 6

Furthermore, he stole a rug worth £100 from Tesco, Bishop Auckland on September 23; laundry products and candles worth £150 from Savers Savers, Bishop Auckland, on September 24; meat to the value of £37.00 at Sainsburys, Ferryhill, on October 4; butter and meat worth £90 from the Co-op Ferryhill on October 6; laundry products worth £45 at Savers, Bishop Auckland on September 28 and steak and baby formula worth £105 from the Co-op in Ferryhill on October 6.
