The victim of the GP who admitted plotting to kill his mother’s long-term partner in an inheritance row has spoken about the "excruciating" pain he experienced.

Patrick O'Hara was poisoned with pesticide by Dr Thomas Kwan who was pretending to administer a Covid booster jab, on a pre-arranged supposed NHS-approved visit to his home in Newcastle, in January this year.

Kwan, 53, was on trial at Newcastle Crown Court in a case which opened on October 3 after initially denying attempted murder, but he changed his plea on October 7 after hearing the prosecution open the case against him.

Today, submissions were made by the prosecution and defence barristers over the sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court.

Mr O'Hara took to the witness stand and described his experiences going "to hell and back" after receiving the poisoned injection.

"During November 2023 I received a letter I trusted and believed was from the NHS, to have the latest booster.

"This was again followed up in early January 2024 confirming the necessity of me having the Covid booster.

"At roughly 0945 hours on Monday 22nd January 2024 my life completely changed for ever.

"This is a date that I will never forget for as long as I shall live.

"On this date, a male attended my home address, under the guise of a healthcare professional administering a Covid injection, and injected me with a devastating toxic chemical, whilst all the time having me believe that the injection was needed for my health and welfare.

"I remember that, when that needle entered my arm, I felt instant, excruciating pain. I had never in my life felt anything that painful before.

"I instantly thought that something had gone wrong."

After a few days of pain he went to the GP and received medication and anti-biotics that didn't seem to stop the problem.

He continued: "I was then admitted to the RVI. The doctors at the RVI informed me that my body was suffering from a flesh eating disease.

"I had three separate operations. Surgeries cut away large parts of my left arm.

"I was informed that skin grafts were susceptible to infections. In total I spent five weeks in hospital and there was never a day that went past that I did not feel in pain."

Mr O'Hara had thought about what he would say to Kwan if he ever saw him again. Kwan was sat in the back of the court while Mr O'Hara's voice waivered trying to battle through his emotions describing his experiences.

He said: "I feel like I have been through hell and back. Thomas will never know what it is like to suffer in the manner that I have.

"It's not just the physical but mental suffering that will never leave me."

Kwan's sentencing date is yet to be decided.
