Roll up, roll up!

The fair has arrived on Yarm High Street - and there's just hours to go before thrill-seekers can make the most of the wild rides and attractions.

Dating as far back as 1207, the event finally kicks off tonight (Thursday, October 17), with the town centre now taken over by towering rides, food stalls, and mini rollercoasters.

Today, first pictures of the fair have offered an insight into what’s on offer this year, with favourites such as the waltzers, the ferris wheel, and the helter skelter all confirmed to be making a return to the High Street.

Other rides now confirmed include the ever-popular crazy frog, the ‘crazy shake’ spinning bowl, the ‘rhythm dancer’ and ‘insania’ (also known as the miami), the ‘exciter’ and the ghost train.

Children’s attractions also include an ice-themed mini rollercoaster, several fun houses, bumper cars, and ‘toy town’ themed tea cups.

Workers at the fair confirmed to The Northern Echo that prices for this year will vary depending on the time of day and the demand from the public.

Children’s rides will hover around the £2.50 to £3 price mark across the event, with the major machine attractions being priced between £3 and £5.

Thrill-seekers can expect to pay the higher end of the price range (£5) for some of the fair’s highlight attractions, such as the exciter.

While there is still some work to go ahead of Thursday’s opening at 6pm, several attractions can already be seen displaying prices, including the helter skelter, which states that four slides will set you back £3.

Details regarding the prices at food trucks remain unknown - although there is a large selection of vendors from coffee to churros and donuts.

Yarm Fair will be open from 6pm until 10pm tonight, with the same opening times tomorrow. Then, on Saturday, following the riding of the fair and the blessing of the fair, attractions will be open from 1pm until 10pm.

The High Street will close for the fair on Thursday and Friday between 5.45pm and 10.45pm, and then for the longer time of 11.30am until 11.59pm on Saturday.

Weather for the event is continuing to look positive, which is a relief following last year, which saw last year’s Friday cancelled “in the interests of public safety” following stormy conditions.
