A man has been arrested after a "shooting" on a Newcastle estate.
Police and paramedics were called to the Headlam Green area of Byker today (Wednesday, October 16), after a man was found with injuries consistent with having been caused by a firearm.
The man – who is aged in his 40s – was taken to hospital for treatment, with Northumbria Police saying his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Armed police officers and police search dogs were spotted at the scene this afternoon, with an area also reportedly being taped off near the Stags Head pub.
The force has confirmed that a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the report, and remains in police custody.
An investigation has been launched and anyone with information should get in touch with police.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 1.50pm today (Wednesday) we received a report of a disturbance in the Headlam Green area of Byker in Newcastle.
"Emergency services attended the scene where they found a man with injuries consistent with having been caused by a firearm.
"The man – in his 40s – was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
