Christmas lights have been spotted going up in Darlington town centre - but is it too early for the decorations, given that it's only the middle of October?
Contractors were seen erecting the lights on Skinnergate in the town today (Wednesday, October 16), which saw strings of lights hung over Skinnergate from one side of the street to the other.
In images of the lights, several workmen could be seen on a cheery picker making sure the lights were straight, while other contractors could be seen putting up lights in other locations in Darlington.
It's understood that the decorations are the same as last year's, with Darlington's Christmas light switch on set for November 19.
While the Christmas lights on lampposts and above streets have gone up - it begs the question, is it too early for decorations - given that it's the middle of October and Halloween hasn't even been yet?
According to historic British brand Wedgewood, Christmas decorations can be put up at any time - but there are several popular dates, which fall in November or December.
The dates that Wedgewood suggests are for both personal decorations in houses and ones that are put in town centres.
Here's what Wedgewood have to say: "When to put up Christmas decorations in town depends on personal preference, but here are some common times: Late November: A popular time to decorate, as it allows for a smooth transition from autumn to Christmas.
"The fourth Sunday before Christmas: Also known as Advent Sunday, this is a traditional time to put up decorations for many Christians.

"Most people take down their decorations after New Year's Day or within the first week of January. However, some people like to leave their decorations up for as long as possible."
