Listed buildings consent for change of use of a former school to a residential dwelling has been submitted to Durham County Council.
The plans include internal alterations to create of mezzanine floor, two roof lights in east roof slope and two in north roof slope, and replacement of mortar where needed, at Hall Hagg Lane, Byers Green, Spennymoor.
The Grade II Listed building, originally St Peter’s Church Hall, dates back to 1852.

The substantial former school is constructed from course squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and quoins. The roof is Welsh Slate with stone copings and ridge.
The property has been vacant for some time and has been marketed by H&H Land & Estates and described as a 19th Century Church Hall suitable for conversion to a dwelling.
The applicant recently purchased the property with the intention to permanently reside in the property following some internal modifications including a mezzanine floor level, new kitchen suite, new bathroom and sensitive repairs including removal of the modern ceilings, repairing the existing timber windows and doors, and repointing of the external stonework with lime mortar.
