FOOTBALLERS at a County Durham school are looking match-ready thanks to a local transport company.
Weardale Travel, which operates school buses for Wolsingham School, in County Durham, has become the shirt sponsor for all the school’s football teams.
David Henderson, PE teacher, said: “Previously, our players were just wearing their regular PE tops, but thanks to this generous sponsorship, the teams are looking really professional and sharp at every match – they look the bees knees, basically!
“We’re massively grateful to Weardale Travel – on behalf of the kids and the staff, we all really appreciate their support.”
The bus company donated more than £1,000 to kit out all ten of the schools teams in new red and blue strips.
The Year 7 team from Wolsingham School, which is part of the Advance Learning Partnership (ALP) education trust, debuted the new strip in a decisive 9-3 victory against Ferryhill School.
“And of course, it was a Weardale Travel bus that took them there and back!” David added.
Paula and Aimi Gibson, who run Weardale Travel alongside their husbands, Anthony and Ian, said: “We’re very proud to have had a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Wolsingham School. Both our husbands went here, and their fathers too, and we really wanted to give something back.

“When the school asked if we’d consider being their first shirt sponsors, we didn’t have to think about it. We know the teachers, we know the kids – we’re a local family company and we want to support our local school, and a valued client.
“We’ve always had a great relationship, and when Wolsingham joined the ALP trust, we were really pleased that it has continued.”
It could be argued that the school teams have ended up with more coaches than they could ever wish for!
