Plans for a glamping site between Darlington and Stockton have been thrown out after a lack of activity on the application.

The proposal by Bishopton Lodge Glamping aimed to establish a site with 10 bell tents, each with its own toilet and shower huts, kitchen facilities, and a parking area.

Despite receiving no objections from the Environment Agency, the application was left dormant, leading to its refusal.

The proposed location was about half a mile southeast of Bishopton and a mile west of Redmarshall, on land with good road access.

Tents were to be arranged to reduce their visual and environmental impact, with no tents placed in areas of high flood risk.

Low-level LED lighting bollards were planned for safe night-time walking, and an existing access track was to be used for vehicular entry.

Submitted in 2022, the application stated: "The proposed development will provide an attractive and well-managed glamping site for tourists visiting the area.

"The site will provide a peaceful and relaxing environment, with carefully planned infrastructure and facilities to ensure a high-quality visitor experience."

However, a planning officer for Darlington Borough Council noted the application remained untouched over several months.

The officer's report stated: "The application was made invalid on February 28, due to a lack of information on the proposed sewage treatment plant and the proposed soakaway system.

"Despite numerous requests, no further information has been provided by the applicant.

"Consequently, the application has been closed."

The report also mentioned that the applicant would need to reapply with the necessary details if they still wished to pursue the project.
