A North East homecare company has been recognised for its inclusivity.
Caremark Redcar and Cleveland, one of the largest homecare companies in the region, has achieved level 2 ‘Disability Confident Employer’ status under the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme.
The Guisborough-based company, which employs about 300 staff, was awarded the recognition for its commitment to creating an inclusive work environment.
This includes implementing an inclusive recruitment process that promotes job vacancies to diverse audiences and guarantees interviews for disabled applicants.
It joins nearly 100 other employers in the region all committed to the Disability Confident Employer scheme.
Caremark also supports employees by making necessary workplace adjustments, such as offering structured routines for staff with autism and allowing those with dyslexia to record notes instead of writing them.
The company has put practices in place to accommodate those who develop disabilities or long-term health conditions during their employment.

Managing Director Michelle Jackson said: “We are delighted to have achieved a Level 2 in the Disability Confident scheme on our first attempt.”
She added: “Caremark Redcar and Cleveland believes strongly in creating an all-inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to contribute and succeed, regardless of personal circumstances.
"There should be no barriers to working in care, and we are committed to ensuring even more people can progress their careers with us.”
The Disability Confident scheme encourages businesses to improve how they recruit and retain disabled staff, ensuring workplaces are open to everyone.
