A pizza chain will open a new venue in Newcastle before Christmas, a year after opening in Durham.
Rudy’s Pizza Napoletana will open its restaurant on Grey Street before the end of the year, after reports in June of the chain’s interest in a venue in Newcastle City Centre.
The restaurant will take over the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on the picturesque Georgian street, which is currently being revamped, and have room for 100 diners.
Rudy’s launched in Manchester in 2015 and has won praise for its traditional Italian food.
Neal Bates from Rudy’s said: “Newcastle is famed for its vibrant nightlife and hospitality, and we can’t wait to bring Rudy’s to the toon and become a part of that. The team is so excited to join this community, get to know our neighbours and welcome both residents and visitors to enjoy a slice of Naples right here in Newcastle.”
It will bring the former RBS building, sandwiched by Sushi Me Rollin’ and Barluga, back into use after the bank closed in October 2022, and create 30 jobs.
The chain opened on Durham’s Silver Street last December and has been proved popular with locals.
Its pizzas are cooked for just 70 seconds in a traditional oven which bosses say creates a soft and light pizza with an airy and “raised cornicione crust”.
Rudy’s now has 30 venues nationwide, with the Newcastle venue set to be its sixth opening this year.
Recruitment for the 30 roles opening will take place later this year, but anyone interested can send their CV to careers@rudyspizza.co.uk.
