Two people are tonight in hospital after a crash in Middlesbrough.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene on the junction of Marton Road and Longlands Road at about 4.50pm on Friday (October 11) after two people were injured.

Police closed the road and the air ambulance was called.

Two people were taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment, the ambulance service said.

Pictures show a dark Vauxhall within the cordoned area. 

Police thanked locals for their patience while the road was closed. In a statement on social media the Cleveland force said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a collision in Middlesbrough and we have closed the road at the Longlands roundabout to the junction of Marton Road, and Longlands Road near the Kwik Fit garage.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called this afternoon at 4.50pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the junction of A172 and A1085 (Marton Road and Longlands Road) in Middlesbrough in which two people were injured.

"We sent two emergency ambulance crews and requested support from the air ambulance. Both patients were transported to James Cook hospital for further treatment."
