Five County Durham drivers have been fined for offences this week - including speeding, failing to identify the driver of a vehicle involved in an offence and various other offences.

5 County Durham drivers fined for offences on A1(M) and A167:

Kyle Zelinka, 23, of Bruce Glazier Terrace, Shotton Colliery, was found guilty of driving without a valid licence.

On May 28, 2024, Zelinka was stopped while driving a Renault Clio on Victoria Street, Shotton Colliery, without the proper licence.

As a provisional licence holder, he failed to display 'L' plates.

Additionally, Zelinka was charged for driving without valid insurance. The court endorsed his driving record with six penalty points, and he was fined £660, along with a £264 victim surcharge and £90 in costs.

His total financial penalty came to £1,014, payable by November 7, 2024.

Matthew Gibson, 36, of Berwick Court, Trimdon Grange, admitted to speeding on December 11, 2023, on Staindrop Road, Darlington.

Gibson was driving a Citroen at speeds exceeding the 30mph limit.

He was fined £553, with a £221 victim surcharge and £110 in costs. The court endorsed his driving record with four points but noted exceptional hardship in his case, particularly regarding the effect on his family.

Alexander Rowan, 39, of Glynwood Gardens, Gateshead, also faced the court for a speeding offence.

On March 24, 2024, he was caught driving a Land Rover on the A1(M) at speeds exceeding 70 mph.

He was fined £293, with additional costs and a victim surcharge amounting to £117. His driving record was endorsed with four penalty points.

Keith Alan Markey, 55, of Earl Carlson Grove, Darlington, faced a similar charge.

On December 14, 2023, he was caught driving his Peugeot over the 70 mph speed limit on the A1(M).

He was fined £211, with a £84 victim surcharge and £110 in costs. His record was endorsed with three points.

The court took his guilty plea into account, and mitigating circumstances led to no further disqualification due to exceptional hardship on his family.

Thomas Fagan, 30, of Bourn Lea, Houghton le Spring, was found guilty of failing to provide information to the police concerning the identity of a driver involved in an alleged offence.

The court imposed a £660 fine, a £264 victim surcharge, and £90 in costs. His driving record was endorsed with six points.
