A film that saw cast and crew take over parts of North Yorkshire will be shown at a community cinema for the first time.
On Sunday (October 13), Starve Acre a film adaptation of Andrew Michael Hurley’s popular novel of 2019 that was described by the Irish Times as 'An impeccable work of folk horror', will be shown at the Ritz Cinema in Thirsk.
Set in rural Yorkshire in the mid-70s, Starve Acre is "at once retro but also on-trend folk horror in the vein of, but not imitating a classic film, according to critics."
When their son starts acting strangely, a couple unwittingly allow dark and sinister forces into their home, awakening a long-dormant ancient evil rooted deep in the countryside.
Morfydd Clark and Matt Smith lead an excellent cast that also includes Robert Emms, Sean Gilder and Erin Richards.
The feature was filmed mainly in the Yorkshire Dales including locations at Pateley Bridge, Malham and Grassington, as well as Harrogate, Castle Howard and on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Marc Davies, of the Ritz Volunteers, said "The film was out last month but has been on limited release so this one-off showing is a rare opportunity to see the film on the big screen - and here in Thirsk".
Another filmed feature will be shown on the evening of Sunday, December 8, and will be Between the Lights; a spiritually tinged romance.
