A County Durham town with average house prices of £134,000 has been named within the UK's most affordable locations.

According to Rightmove, Bishop Auckland is one of 22 locations in the UK where it's beneficial for families to move, given the house prices and value for money. 

This data was published as part of a Daily Mail investigation, which listed Bishop Auckland as number eight out of 22 UK places.

In its considerations, Rightmove and the Daily Mail said: "A bustling market town, Bishop Auckland has a wonderful mix of history, culture and green space.

"The magnificent 900-year-old Auckland Palace and its manicured grounds are a real pull to the town, as is the 150-acre ancient Deer Park and reimagined 17th-century walled garden.

"The pretty street of Fore Bondgate is one of the oldest and hosts a range of independent businesses, including a gluten-free bakery, an art gallery and an upcycled and vintage furniture shop and repair specialists."

It adds: "There has been significant regeneration of the area in recent years but house prices remain low, meaning families can get lots of bang for their buck.

"The spectacular outdoor show Kynren, with its 1,000-strong cast of volunteers, runs every Saturday throughout the summer and dazzles visitors with its imagining of the last 2,000 years of English history."

So there we have it - Bishop Auckland, with its houses for an average price of £134,000 is a decent investment, according to estate agents and housing experts.
