It is set to be a wet, rainy and cold day across the North East today (December 11) as the Met Office predicts heavy showers set to continue in to the evening.

The region is set to have a rather wet and rainy day according to forecasters who have predicted at least a 60% chance of rain each hour for the whole day.

Today, temperatures will reach a high of 14C as forecasters say that "spells of rain" are set to linger.

Light wind is also forecast throughout the day but will only reach a high of 15mph, with the sun due to set at 6:24pm.

Following this wet Tuesday, the forecaster has also stated that “further outbreaks of showery rain” will hit the region from Wednesday.

The forecaster predicts: “A dry start in the far north, before bands of showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, move northwards across all parts during the day.

“Feeling cool underneath the cloud and rain. Winds will remain light. Maximum temperature 13 °C.”
