Have you ever wondered where the most haunted places in the North East are?

Ghosts, ghouls, poltergeist activity and more. These are just some of the freaky goings on that have been reported from venues across the region.

Whether you believe in the paranormal or not, you have to admit that there have been some weird and wonderful claims from venues like castles, pubs and more that all seem to boast spooky backstories.

Since Halloween is well on its way, we thought we would round up some of the most haunted locations and tell you about the spirits that reportedly reside there.

Here's just five from around the region - some of this information has been sourced from The Paranormal Database

Darlington Civic Theatre

The theatre's founder, Senor Rino Pepi, is still said to sit to the left of the stage, wearing his top hat and long coat. The cries of a sobbing child (perhaps acting) have also been reported around the changing rooms.

Pekinese, his dog, was buried within the walls of the theatre, its ghostly presence indicated by lightly padding feet moving across the floors, and soft panting.

Blackwell Grange Hotel, Darlington

According to reports, the Blackwell Grange Hotel holds the spirit of a tartan lady from a painting.

This ghostly Scot came to Blackwell after the Duke of Cumberland stole her portrait and brought it here in 1746. Though the painting has since been destroyed, the Tartan Lady still haunts the building.

Here's an interactive map of more reportedly haunted locations...

HMYOI Deerbolt, Barnard Castle

During a month in 2014 it was reported that lighting was switched off and on again and on one night, two bin lids were found spinning on the floor.

The area was locked down as member of staff who spotted the lids feared an offender was loose, but CCTV footage showed the lids flying off the bins unaided.

The Reproduction Centre, Hartlepool

Just a few of the many spooky goings on that have been reported at the sprawling Reproduction Centre include the apparition of a lady in a red polka dot dress, glasses flying off participants' heads and particularly emotional tales from the war when the cellar of the building was used as an air raid shelter.

A previous investigation with The Northern Echo found an influx of activity including many responses on a Ouija Board.

The former Robbie Burns Pub, Houghton-le-Spring

One of three ghosts reportedly haunting this building, the woman in black would be observed disappearing into a wall.

A male shadow has been seen darting across the bar area, and finally, a young fair haired boy has also been spotted.
