A town centre road is set to undergo multiple improvement works from today which will last up to six months.

Coniscliffe Road in Darlington will be the site of multiple works in the next six months from today (October 7) which includes the installation of highway drainage, road resurfacing and more.

The work, which will be carried out by the council, is part of a "footway and carriageway improvement scheme" which will redevelop and install permanent pavement seating in Coniscliffe Road establishing a permanent "cafe culture" in the town.

Yellow signs informing motorists of the closure have also been placed at either end of the road.

A statement handed to local residents reads: "During the first week we will be working to install new highway drainage which is required for the scheme.

"On Sunday, October 13, our site office and welfare facilities will be delivered, and we will be working on the removal of the existing concrete planters. This work will require a road closure which will be in place from 9am.

"Works to the carriageway and footways will follow this with footpath closures required to complete the works, however, there will be alternative footways available to use. Access to properties will be maintained at all times during the works.
