A former North East cinema was pictured up in flames in the early hours of the morning as the emergency services urge people to avoid the area.
Five fire crews from across the region were called to the former Odeon Cinema on Dent Street in Hartlepool at 11pm last night (October 5) following reports of a blaze.
Pictures show multiple crews working in to the early hours of the morning to tackle the devastating inferno which has destroyed the roof of the building.
An orange glow can also be seen through the windows of the derelict grade II listed building, which was built in the 1930s as the fire roars on.
Two fire crews remain at the scene this morning - but the cause of the fire has not yet been revealed.
A Cleveland Fire Brigade statement reads: "We are currently (06/10/24, 08:30) dealing with a protracted incident involving a building fire (former Odeon Cinema) at York Road, Hartlepool.
"There are currently 2 fire appliances in attendance. Please avoid the area if you can."
A police statement issued last night stated that the roads surrounding the building have been closed.
It reads: "Officers are currently at the scene of a large fire at the disused Odeon building on Dent Street in Hartlepool.
"Road closures are in place on York Road, Hart Lane and Raby Road and people are advised to avoid the area while Cleveland Fire Brigade tackle the flames.
"Thank you for your patience."
