Food lovers in the North East can attempt to set new records in these challenges across the region, with some challenges even offering cash prizes of up to £100 to finish mountains of food.

Here's a list of some of the North East food challenges sweeping the internet by storm:

Hideaway Pizza, Darlington

The Darlo v Dough challenge was recently featured on YouTube food challenge connoisseur BeardMeatsFood's page, gaining more than 3 million views.

Contestants aim to eat as many slices of pizza as they can in 45 minutes, in an attempt to beat the current record of 10.

Succeed to get the meal for free and the leaderboard will be updated with your feat at the top of the standings as a target for future challengers to aspire to beat.

The time limit is 45 minutes and the cost is £30.

SLICE, Sunderland

SLICE Sunderland has a mammoth 24-inch pizza challenge, purportedly the biggest individual pizza challenge in the UK.

Competitors have 45 minutes to finish the thick-crusted pizza, topped with a selection of their choice.

Successful record setters not only eat for free but also have their victory immortalised on their wall of fame.

Usually, a Pizza at SLICE would cost you £25, but if you're taking on the challenge, they discount that to just £15.00. BeardMeatsFood also recorded a video here and the post on YouTube has around 3.3 million views.
