A 'bizarre' review about a County Durham tourist attraction has been left on TripAdvisor, which left a visitor angered.

After a recent visit to Auckland Castle, also known as Auckland Palace, the visitor, who remains anonymous on the review site, hit out at the fact that people have to allegedly 'dodge sheep poo' when they arrive.

The visitor, who said they had visited many times previously, highlighted her struggle with the visit - saying that she and her kids had to avoid the poo of the sheep as soon as they arrived.

The view, left in the last few weeks, goes on to say that the visitor wouldn't choose to go to Auckland Castle again.

"Not today, took the dogs for a long walk and wanted to come here, when we arrived there were a huge number of sheep (which is fine, but we also are aware that sheep can be temperamental) but the amount of sheep poo (quite sloppy) covered every footpath and grassed area, it was a case of dodge the poo.

"I will not be going back and I will be telling how bad the paths are."

Despite the visitor's experience of the attraction, Auckland Castle has 4.5 stars out of five stars on TripAdvisor, including 290 excellent reviews.

One person who loved their recent visit said: "Our third visit to this amazing place. We went particularly to visit the European Masterpieces’ exhibition which was fabulous.

"Afterwards we visited the horticultural show on the bowling green and the pumpkin displays. All fabulous."

Auckland Palace is one of the best-preserved bishops’ palaces in the whole of Europe and is at the centre of The Auckland Project.

The Palace has undergone major conservation work, to transform its state rooms to their original Georgian Gothic splendour, as designed by the renowned English architect James Wyatt.
