A County Durham man who ran an unlicensed scrap metal dealers is now paying the price after he was issued a hefty fine in court.
Kurt Lewis Dilks, 26, of Jack Lawson Terrace, Wheatley Hill, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on October 2, 2024, where he pleaded guilty to carrying on business as a scrap metal dealer without authorisation between June 1, 2023, and July 13, 2023.
In court listings, Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court said: "Between 01/06/2023 and 13/07/2023, in County Durham, carried on business as a scrap metal dealer when not authorised by a licence under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.

"Contrary to section 1 of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. Between 01/06/2023 and 13/07/2023, the defendant carried on business as a scrap metal dealer when not authorised by a licence under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013."
Dilks was fined £133 and ordered to pay a £53 victim surcharge and £300 in costs - totalling £486.
The court acknowledged his guilty plea when imposing the sentence, with a payment deadline of October 31, 2024.
