A Darlington man has denied committing acts of violence against and threatening to kill a woman in a recent incident at her home.

Nicholas James Mosley is accused of intentional strangulation, common assault and making a threat to kill the complainant, all said to have been committed at an address in Darlington, on Friday, August 30.

Appearing at Durham Crown Court, via video link from prison in Doncaster, where he is on remand, the defendant denied all three charges.

It will be the subject of a pre-trial hearing at the court, on Monday, December 9.

Judge Jo Kidd said she would set aside an hour of court time for that hearing as it may have the effect of resolving the situation, one way or another.

Depending on the outcome of the pre-trial hearing, a provisional trial date was agreed between all parties in the case, starting at the court on Wednesday, March 5.

The 29-year-old defendant, of Oxford Mews, Darlington, was remanded to remain in custody until the December 9 hearing and potentially on to the March 5 trial, if required.
