A North East hotel has taken home a Michelin Guide award for their outstanding provisions.
The Michelin Guide famously rates restaurants – but it has been sending inspectors to accommodations around the world for its new hotel ‘key’ ratings.
The world-famous guide has this week awarded 123 hotels in Great Britain and Ireland with key ratings based on categories like architecture, service, and guest experience.
Grantley Hall, in Ripon, North Yorkshire, has taken home one of the inaugural awards, winning itself one Michelin Key.
In total, the 2024 Michelin Guide hotel selection for Great Britain and Ireland includes 14 Three Key hotels, 37 Two Key hotels and 72 One Key hotels.
Grantley Hall, a 17th-century Palladian gem in the Yorkshire Dales, is a "classic example of the English country-house hotel" according to the Guide.
A spokesperson for the Michelin Guide said: "The exterior, electric lighting aside, remains just as it was, while the interiors have been brought up to contemporary luxury-hotel standard — retaining their historical aspect, of course, but looking as fresh as the day the Hall was built.
"Grantley Hall’s attractions include a surprisingly extensive spa and fitness center, as well as no fewer than two bars and three restaurants, including the flagship, Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall, recipient of one Michelin Star."
Prices at Grantley Hall start at £630 a night.
About the new Keys rating, the Guide added: "Michelin Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world – and not a single one is simply a room for the night.
"These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveller, each vetted by our hotel experts and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design; quality and consistency of service; overall personality and character; value for the price; and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.
"Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our Michelin Guide Inspectors, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection.
"Like the Michelin Stars for restaurants, the Michelin Keys are our most outstanding hotels."
