A Darlington drink driver who was involved in a hit and run and disqualified from driving will now spend time behind bars after he decided to drive home from court.

Steven Luck from Darlington was just yesterday (October 1) found guilty of drink driving and was disqualified from driving for 28 months following a hit-and-run incident earlier this year.

When he was three times above the drink driving limit, Mr Luck was involved in a crash in his Range Rover at 6:15pm on May 18 - but failed to stop at the scene.

However, after Mr Luck appeared in court he decided to drive home just minutes later.

Durham Constabulary have now released a video of Mr Luck being arrested and taken to Darlington Police station by officers after he was seen driving the same vehicle involved in the crash earlier this year.

After pulling him over at 3:15pm on Tuesday (October 2), Special Constable Howells asks Mr Luck: "Are you aware you have just been in court?"

Mr Luck responds yes but claims he "didn't know it started straight away" and was immediately arrested for disqualified driving.

He will now serve 8 weeks in prison and face a 40 month driving ban and will have to pay £2,500 in fines.
