The first flights of the winter season for Jet2 have taken off to Iceland from the North East.

Lucky passengers set off for breaks in Iceland from Newcastle Airport today (October 2) on what are the airlines' first flights to the country to kick off the winter season.

Travellers will arrive at Keflavík International Airport near Reykjavik for short city breaks in the Nordic destination known for its volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields.

Two weekly services on Wednesday and Sunday will take off from Newcastle operating from October 2 to November 3 2024, and February 12 to March 30 2025.

From Leeds Bradford Airport, the same Wednesday and Sunday services will fly from October 2 to November 3 2024, and February 12 to March 30, 2025.

Grétar Garðarsson, Director of Airline Relations and Route Development at Keflavik Airport, said: "We are delighted to welcome the first Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks flights to Keflavik Airport this winter season.

"We are also extremely happy about the capacity increase in the flights for this coming season. A 13% increase is phenomenal, and we look forward to greeting all Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks travellers while Icelanders will be flocking to flights to destinations such as Leeds and Newcastle where today’s flight are coming from.
