An aggravated burglary probe has been launched after the window of a Darlington property was left shattered.
Police were called to Brunton Street at about 10pm on Tuesday, October 1, after report of a suspected aggravated burglary at a terraced home.
Nearby residents reported waking to "loud bangs" in the night before waking up to find glass scattered across the pavement and the living room of a property open to the elements.
Pictures from the scene showed one police van and a crime scene investigation parked along the road, with officers spotted carrying out enquiries throughout the morning.
Durham Constabulary has confirmed it has launched an investigation, and that officers are following "several lines of enquiry".
Detectives are keep to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time.
As previously reported, residents told The Northern Echo how they heard "thumping" late on Tuesday night on what some described as a "usually quiet" street.
One 61-year-old resident said: “I didn’t hear anything. The first I saw was this morning at about 9am, when the police van was there.
“I phoned my mate and he said four lads had come up to the house and someone told their girlfriend to go inside. Then I’m presuming that the window was smashed.
"They said it happened at about 10pm last night."
A full statement from police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of a suspected aggravated burglary at an address in Darlington.
"The incident happened on Brunton Street, at about 10pm on Tuesday, October 1. Thankfully, no-one was injured.
