Residents were woken to "loud bangs" after the front window of a Darlington home was left shattered in a late-night incident.
Crime scene investigators were spotted on Brunton Street, just off Neasham Road, on Wednesday (October 2) morning after the glass window of a property was smashed.
Pictures from the scene show how glass has been left scattered across the pavement, with the curtains of the living room hanging outside the window blowing in the wind.
One police van and a crime scene investigation van were present on the terraced street on Wednesday, while two officers carried out door-to-door enquiries at the scene.
Another officer remained seated in the police van, parked just beside the shattered glass.
The incident is believed to have taken place sometime around midnight - although details are still yet to be confirmed by Durham Constabulary.
One 61-year-old resident said: “I didn’t hear anything. The first I saw was this morning at about 9am, when the police van was there.
“I phoned my mate and he said four lads had come up to the house and someone told their girlfriend to go inside. Then I’m presuming that the window was smashed.
"They said it happened at about 10pm last night."
Recalling the moment he saw the crime scene, the man, who has lived here for three and a half years, added: "It’s a quiet street. I wondered what the hell had gone on!"
Another unnamed resident, who was asleep during the ordeal, said: “It was at about 10pm when I heard some thumping. It must have been the glass smashing that woke me up.

"Apparently there was shouting but I didn’t hear anything, I was dead to the world. I’ve lived here for four years and it’s quiet - it’s not too bad normally."
Another resident, who was leaving for work, told The Northern Echo that he missed the incident due to being on a nightshift: "When I got in at around 5.30am, someone told me that there were loud bangs last night."
The Northern Echo has contacted Durham Constabulary for further information.
