Bannatyne is set to up its membership fees due to costs "rising significantly" across the last year.

The national health club - owned by serial entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne OBE and based in Darlington - has announced an increase in its prices from November 1.

Bosses say the decision was made due to costs "rising significantly" after reviewing its fees - adding that the increase is only "very small".

In an email sent to members on Tuesday (October 1) and seen by The Northern Echo, the company said it "continuously strives to ensure that our services offer exceptional value and remain an attractive proposition to both our existing members and prospective joiners".

Members wanting to review their membership type were signposted to either the Bannatyne website or asked to speak with a team member at their local health club.

All sites have been affected by the price boost, with the Darlington gym now advertising full access memberships from £52.99 monthly, Durham at £50.99 and Ingleby Barwick at £47.99.

The news comes just 11 months after the firm increased fees on December 1 last year.

In Ingleby Barwick, this move in 2023 saw fees for the full access memberships increase to £44.49 - with the upcoming price rise seeing gym goers set to pay £47.49.

It also comes just months after its annual results showed the company had recorded restored growth in turnover and profits, completing its recovery from the pandemic.

The business saw an EBITDA profit growth of 30% to £38m and revenues increase by 9% to £139m in the year ending December 31st 2023.

A spokesperson for the Bannatyne Group said: "We have reviewed our membership fees. Costs have risen significantly over the last year and a very small increase in fees has been implemented from November.”
