A North East city has been named one of the cheapest nights out for students in the country according to a study.

New research by casino.org has placed Middlesbrough as the ninth least expensive city in the UK for a student night out.

The study looked at a range of factors, including travel costs, the price of a pint, weekend hotel rates, and the cost of post-night-out food.

According to the data, an average night out in Middlesbrough would set students back £108.

This includes the cost of a McDonald's meal at £7, three pints of beer at £11.25, a one-way public transport ticket at £3.05, a one-mile taxi ride at £3.83, and a weekend night in a hotel at £83.

The study found that Middlesbrough is more affordable than other major cities, making it a favourable choice for students looking to save money.

Research also revealed the overall cheapest city for a night out in 2024.

Bradford came out on top, with a total cost of just £94, which is £52 below the UK average.

The city also boasts the lowest weekend hotel rates at £67, and ranks as one of the cheapest cities for taxi fares, with a fare of £3.55 for a one-mile journey.

Huddersfield was the second most affordable city, with a total night-out cost of £99.

This West Yorkshire town offers the cheapest taxi fares at £2.87 per mile and ranks third for the lowest alcohol prices, with three pints costing just £10.05.

Milton Keynes takes third place, with a night out costing £100.

The Buckinghamshire city ranks in the top 20 for four out of the five factors assessed.

The study provides a comprehensive look at the cost of a night out in 2024, giving students a clear idea of where they can enjoy a night out without breaking the bank.
