Darlington is braced for extreme weather later today as heavy rain continues to hit the region.

The Met Office predict that there will be heavy rain from 8am this morning and continuing throughout the day.

Temperatures will be cool throughout the day today at 13C and wind speeds are expected to be high with 36mph gusts.

The sun is expected to set by 18:41pm.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Often cloudy with occasional, mainly light rain or showers.

"Some drier spells are still likely however, particularly during the afternoon.

"Strong winds only very gradually easing through the day, so still feeling rather cold for the time of year. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

"A few passing showers around, but many places staying dry overnight. Cloudy skies eventually giving way to clearer spells by dawn. Lighter winds developing away from coastal areas."
