The North East has been well and truly hit with wet and windy weather to start the week - but when is it set to end?

The region has been stuck with miserable grey skies, showers and cool breezes all day today (September 30) as forecasters warned of a "wet and windy" day.

This weather has stuck around following the weekend where high winds of up to 40-50mph meant waves battered the coastline in Seaham.

Flood alerts were also issued around the region alongside a yellow weather warning as locals were warned of impact on transport, power and more.

But, according to the Met Office forecast, residents can expect to see the rain ease off by Tuesday (October 1) evening ready for a drier morning on Wednesday and a "quiet spell of weather" later in the week.
