A man has died following a crash on the A19. 

Emergency services were called to the major road at Murton, near Dalton Park, after a one-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Sunday (September 29). 

Police and ambulances, including an air ambulance, attended the scene at 11.49am before the North East Ambulance Service took one person to hospital. 

Durham Constabulary has confirmed that a 22-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver did not receive any injuries. 

An investigation has been launched and police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident. 

As previously reported, AA Traffic News reported that all lanes had been stopped at the time, sparking huge delays along the A19.  

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson previously said: "We received a call at 11.49am to reports of an incident on the A19 in Murton. 

"We sent a rapid response paramedic, a Hazardous Area Response Team, a clinical team leader, air ambulance and two emergency ambulance crews. 

"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."

Durham Constabulary said: "A man has sadly died following a collision on the A19 at Murton yesterday.

"Police were called at 11:50am on Sunday morning (September 29) to a one-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

"Paramedics also attended, but the 22-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, the driver did not receive any injuries.

"An investigation is now underway and collision investigators are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or with dashcam footage.
